About the Artist
Amy Roy – Artist’s Brief Bio
Amy is a 1984 graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Although her degree is in Interior Design, her real passion lies in painting with oils on canvas. Mrs. Phyllis Pierce, her high school art instructor, introduced Amy to this medium. Her education flourished during her teenage years, continued sporadically through college, and culminated after graduation with painting classes at Cincinnati’s Art Academy under the tutelage of Mr. Joseph Peter. Amy’s years of commissioned work had consisted of animal and human portraits, landscapes and architectural compositions in the style of photorealism. Three years ago, Amy experienced a turning point.
Since she holds Northern Michigan and its entire pristine, natural beauty near to her heart, her portfolio now features wildlife. The opportunity to observe in proximate view and to photograph a pair of richly preened Greater Sandhill Cranes, a species of bird she hadn’t known nor seen, awakened an awareness and fascination for birds.
The past three years Amy has been honored with awards for her painting, “The Adoptive Parent”, in two national exhibitions. This painting of a Canada Geese Family was taken from Seney Wildlife Refuge, Upper Peninsula, MI. Amy takes her own photographs and works from them to develop her compositions. Her works carry a theme of animal or bird behavior in a natural habitat.
